As almost a fifth of global electricity is used for lighting, energy efficiency of lighting matters regarding the reduction of the cost of lighting and related carbon emissions. Although light-emitting diode (LED), a low energy lighting device, has been used in electronics since 1960’s, the expansion of use in illumination started after the development of the high-power white-light LED in 1990’s. As the research in LEDs continues and technology improves, lighting designers, and specifiers have to keep up with the product development and assess their quality and performance.

The event will provide information on most recent developments in LED lighting, their performance and application in new and existing buildings. It will also highlight recent research at Glasgow Caledonian University on the use of LED in optical wireless communications.  The speaker on this topic is also the author of the book “Optical Wireless Communications: System and Channel Modelling with MATLAB” published by CRC Press in August 2012.

The event is suitable for architects, lighting designers, installers, building owners and managers, product designers and manufacturers, as well as the researchers in the LED applications.

CPD certificate will be provided to the delegates.
